One of the scarcest commodities on earth today is
rest. We are all going about hustling and trying to make ends meet anyhow so it
somehow becomes difficult to really take that necessary rest, and in the end,
we are forcefully laid to rest especially by sickness or death which shouldn’t
be so, because God’s greatest wish for us is that we may prosper and be in good
health even as our soul prospers. Rest is necessary to get more energized so
that we can go about our daily hustle with the right amount of zeal and energy.
In Gen 2:2, Bible says, “And on the seventh day God
ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his
work which he had made.” God knew the importance of rest which was why He took
a day off to rest. How often do you take time off work? When the disciples came
back from where they were sent to in twos, Jesus knew they had not rested at
all which was why in Mark 6:31 we read that, “And he said unto them, Come ye
yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many
coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.”
I understand that it could be a hard thing to really
take time to rest in this our present age but you need to know that no matter
how hard you hustle or work, if the Lord doesn’t build the house, the laborer
labors in vain. Rest is not a waste of time or idleness, as a matter of fact,
not taking it makes you idle and you end up losing the time you thought would
be wasted. If God could rest and Jesus also counselled the disciples to rest,
why not you? After all, you call yourself a child of God.
Always remember this word of Stephen King that, “A
change is as good as a rest.”
Shalom!
