While goal setting is great and pretty essential –
you have to know how you’re going to get there (i.e. put systems in place) –
exclusively focusing on the goal is not that effective. In fact, it makes us
feel like a failure over and over for not having yet reached our goal even if
we are making improvements and progress. The word system can be defined as
"a coordinated body of methods or a scheme or plan of procedure;
organizational scheme."
For example, your goal might be you want to write a
book this year, the system would now be that, you would be writing one chapter
per day for thirty days (depending on the number of chapters you want to write).
Your own goal might be you want to start your own business, the system could
be, you would give free services to your friends by March or so. The most
important this is that, don’t just set goals, action them. Break it into daily tasks,
such that it becomes easier to achieve.
As long as you follow the system and do what you’re
supposed to do every day, you’ll be successful! This is compared to people
focusing on goals and ultimately becoming flustered and unmotivated because day
after day they still haven’t reached their ultimate goal. Listen, “New Year
resolutions without New Ways of doing things, will only bring new dimension of
frustration.”
Be liberated.
