One of the entrances into our mind is our ears. This
is why if you were told that the economy of your nation is crumbling and would
most likely lead to downsizing in most sectors including the one where you work,
fear sets in immediately. Your mind begins to come up with reasons why you
might be one of those that might be laid off. It is so important to guard our
ears.
Bartimaeus in Mark 10 was a blind man, but he received
his healing because of what he heard. Bible says the moment he heard that Jesus
was in town, he started shouting, “Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.”
Some other people told him to shut up, but because of what he had heard, he couldn’t
keep quiet. His cry finally got Jesus’ attention and at the end of the day,
Bartimaeus received his sight.
The scripture says faith cometh by hearing. In 1
Kings 18:41, Elijah told Ahab, “Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a
sound of abundance of rain.” Even though Ahab didn’t see any sign, he believed
and went away. In the same vein, fear also comes by hearing. When God wanted to
end the famine in Samaria in 2 Kings 7, all He did was to make the host of
Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a
great host.
Immediately the thought of fear set in and they said,
“The king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the
kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.” As a result of this, they fled away and
left their possessions. In this season where good news is no news and bad news
is news, you need to filter what goes into your ears, because what you hear
affects your thought which would affect how you talk, act and react.
Always remember if you hear it, you most likely
would believe it.
