One of the cheapest, most affordable and available
commodity around is discouragement. It is quite easy to get discouraged considering
the dreams that are not coming to pass as when planned. It is very easy to lose
enthusiasm and zeal when we consider the disappointments and all that we have
encountered. Some people have hired coaches to encourage them to carry on but
the truth is nobody can encourage you except yourself. It has to come from the
inside.
I understand it is not easy to encourage oneself
when times are getting tougher and things are getting out of hand. During those
times, the easiest option is to just give up and say, “It’s not worth it,” “I
will just manage what I have,” “I cannot come and kill myself.” In 1 Sam 30, King
David felt same way when his city got destroyed and his family was kidnapped. To
make matters worse, his own men turned against him. The easiest option
available for him was to just accept the defeat.
However, Bible says in verse 6 that, “David
encouraged himself in the Lord.” Many times, the people you feel could
encourage you might not be there for you not because they want to dessert you
but they are also busy looking for someone to encourage them. The best thing to
do is to begin to replay the goodness of God upon your life. As you do that,
uncommon strength comes from within and you begin to see a way out that would
bring a turn around.
Are you at a point where you feel like throwing in
the towel, hold on a minute, why don’t you just look back on past
accomplishments and victories and draw inspiration from them? Stay focused on
thoughts of good and thoughts of hope. If you would encourage yourself, you
would develop the courage to carry on. You may have only be knocked down, you aren’t
knocked out yet.
Always remember that a setback is a setup for a
comeback.
