READING AND THINKING

June 29, 2014

One of the most impressed things upon my mind is the saying that, “Readers are leaders,” which I am sure you have heard it several times as well. Unfortunately, reading culture is fast becoming extinct, but I have discovered that, for those who take time out to read, the world is always rewarding them with the highest position on earth because in most cases, they end up knowing more and better than others.

In Daniel 9:2, Daniel said, “In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.” Daniel would have lacked understanding had he not opened some books. Someone said that if you want to hide something from a fool, put it in a book because he would never bother opening it. Sir, I have personally realized that the more you read, the better informed you become and the more respected you are.

As much as it is good to read, it is also advisable to think as you read. Always ask yourself, “How can I better my life with this information?” Reading without thinking of how to use what you have read is like spending five years learning how to climb a tree but never moving near a tree. Information accumulation (reading) without application (thinking of how to use the information) leads to knowledge constipation. Bishop Oyedepo said, “The man that cannot think will stink.”

Gen 1:28 documents God’s mandate for us to dominate the earth, but you won’t be able to dominate if you don’t know better and can’t think better. Develop yourself today, read wide and think more. Most importantly read the word of God and think upon them.

Have a fruitful week.
