No matter how big you are today, God used the union
of two people to usher you into this planet earth – your father and mother, as
such, they deserve so much respect and honor. In the word of God, the only
commandment that has a promise attached to it is the commandment that we should
honor our fathers and mother.
Honoring one’s parents starts with obeying them. Col
3:20 says, “Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well
pleasing unto the Lord.” Bible says in Gen 28:7 that Jacob obeyed his father
and mother. As a result of the obedience of that day, God blessed him so much
that Gen 30:43 says, “And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattle,
and maidservants, and menservants, and camels, and asses.”
How well are you obeying your biological parents? How
well are you obeying your spiritual parents? How well are you even obeying your
heavenly Father? The one you honor, you obey. Pro 30:17 says, “The eye that
mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the
valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.”
In Gen 9, a young man by the name Ham was cursed by
his father because he dishonored him. Noah was so drunk that he became naked,
Ham saw him and instead of covering him up, he went to call his brethren,
however those ones were wise, as they went backward to cover their father’s
nakedness. As a result of their act of that day, they obtained their father’s
blessings.
Deut 5:16 says, “Honor thy father and thy mother, as
the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that
it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.” Be nice
to your parents; take care of them; pray for them and most importantly if they
are not believers, bring them to Christ.
Remain blessed!
