COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS NOT YOUR BURDENS

March 1, 2014

A lot of us go through life everyday complaining about one thing or the other. Not enough money; dry weather; stubborn children; unloving husband; rude wife; low paying job etc. One thing that I don’t have to be a prophet to know is that there are one million and one things to complain about. As a matter of fact, one thing you can never run out of is a reason to complain.
This attitude has so much eaten deep into us that we sometimes refuse to give God thanks for the tiniest thing like being able to eat – we feel, it is a normal thing.

1 Thess 5:18 says, “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” Despite all that happened to Brother Job, he still had reasons to thank God. Someone said thank God for dirty dishes, it means while other folks go hungry, you are eating pretty well. Another person said thank God for that one pair of shoes, some set of people wish they have legs. Thank God for that stubborn child, some would give all they have to have one.

Stop reflecting on what God has not done; be grateful for that which He has done. The attitude of thanking God today guarantees a better tomorrow. I urge you to replace regrets with gratitude. Count your blessings not your burdens. Be grateful for what you have, not regretful for what you have not. One way or the other, something good has happened to you. Millions didn’t make it thus far, but here you are standing strong.

Someone said that if you can’t be thankful for what you have, be thankful for what you have escaped. When you count all your blessings, you will always show a profit. If the only prayer you say in your life is “Thank You Lord,” that would suffice. I need you to understand that the more you complain, the less you will obtain.
