We live in a time where the code of conduct is me,
myself and I. it is a case of, “as long as I have food to eat and cash in my
wallet, I am not bothered if my friends or neighbors are on compulsory hunger
strike.” Friends, it should not be so.
Hospitality can also mean generosity. It means to be
helpful unto others. Bible says in Rom 12:13 that a Christian must be given to
hospitality. 1 Pet 4:8-9 says, “And above all things have fervent charity among
yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. Use hospitality one
to another without grudging.” Heb 13:2 says, “Be not forgetful to entertain
strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”
Once again, I must tell you that this is a pregnant
year with lot of goodies, and one of the secret to obtain these goodies is
hospitality. Some believers are like wild fire in their communities and
offices. Some of them are so stingy that to give out a penny
is always difficult. It ought not to be so. Because of Abraham’s generosity and
act of hospitality in Gen 18, God had to tell Abraham his future plan
concerning Sodom. As if that was not enough, because of Lot’s hospitality in
Gen 19, the angels told him, “Do you have any family member here, because we
are going to destroy this land.”
In 2 Kings 4, the Shunem woman enjoyed God because she was very
generous towards Elisha. For a roof and food, she got a child. Sir, the truth
is everything you think you have is God’s own property. The only man that left
the presence of Jesus sad was that man that found it hard to sell what he had
to give to the poor. Be generous to the needy, the stranded, the naked, the
homeless and the hungry. As you do so, you are lending to the Lord and that
which you have given will God pay you again.
