TAME YOUR TONGUE - 1

April 12, 2013

A store boy was asked by an elderly lady, “Can I buy half a loaf of bread?” The boy walked to theManager’s  office, not realizing that the old lady followed him. He said “Can you imagine one rickety raggedy tattered old bag out there asking if she could buy half a loaf of bread.” The manager could not respond and this made the boy sense something strange.

The boy turned around and saw the elderly lady right behind him, quickly he added, “And there is this other fine old lady who would like to buy the other half.”

Your tongue is in a wet place and can slip easily. Have you ever thought of why the doctor would ask you stick out your tongue whenever you are not feeling well? Your tongue reveals what’s going on inside of you – both physically and spiritually.

James 3:1 says “For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.” One of the easiest way to sin is with our tongues. There is always an opportunity to say something wrong. Imagine there is a recording of all your conversations of the past week, some of would be guilty of: lying, slandering, cursing, gossiping, yelling, being sarcastic, and many more

As little as the tongue is, it is sharper than a two edged sword. It directs where you go in life. It is like the ship’s rudder.  Your tongue can also destroy what you have. James 3:6 “so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body..” Prov 21:23 says “Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.

Some people have used their own tongues for self destruction. It is not uncommon to hear people say things like: I am ruined,I am dead etc.

I pray that in every way and anyway you have used your tongue to bring affliction upon yourself, God will deliver you in Jesus Name. Amen!
