One of the scarcest commodities to find around is
integrity. Many people including those in authorities and even believers are
ready to do anything even if it means compromising their integrities to get
what they want. I have heard some people say, “After all, no one can see me.” A
man’s word is vital.
It is very important to be able to rely on others and
trust them to be men of their word. I often hear an African proverb that says, “If
one says his fathers’ house masquerade will dance, and then suddenly comes out
to say the masquerade is not going to dance again, no one can question that
change in decision.” This has so much forced us into having people put things
in writing, which has led to lack of trust.
As believers, our words are meant to be powerful and
reliable because Ecc 8:4a says, “Where the word of a king is, there is power.”
And Rev 5:10 says, “And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we
shall reign on the earth.” In order words, we are kings, queens and priests
here on earth, as such, when we say a thing, people should meet it that way. Unfortunately,
it is very hard and dangerous to rely on the words of men of these days, which is
why many people lose clients, many people have lost their destiny helpers and
so on.
David said in 1 Chron 29:17, that “I know, my God,
that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity.” (NIV) Matt 5:37 says, “Let
your yes be yes and no be no.” When your yes or no is not enough to convince
someone, then know that your integrity level is low. Prov 19:1 says, “Better is
the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips,
and is a fool.”
Always remember that a man’s word is the physical
representation of the man.
