Until you have the knowledge of who you truly are,
you will never cease living like someone else. There is a popular story of a
boy that found an eagle’s egg and put it in the nest of a chicken. The eagle
hatched and thought that he was a chicken. He grew up doing what the chickens
do – scattering the dirt for food and flying short distances with a noisy
fluttering of wings. It was a dreary life.
One day he went out and saw a beautiful bird soaring
on the currents of the air and dancing in the sky high above the mountains. “Oh,
I wish I could fly like that!” said the eagle. The chicken replied, “Don’t give
it another thought. That’s the mighty eagle, the king of all birds – you could
never be like him, you are an ordinary chicken!” The eagle gave it no more
thought from that moment and went on cackling and complaining about life. The
eagle died thinking he was a chicken.
In Luke 15, Jesus told the prodigal son parable. One
of the sons demanded that his father give him his own share of the father’s
will even when the father was still alive. Bible says he got it and wasted
everything on riotous living. He started living like a vagabond to the extent
that he was also eating part of the food meant for pigs.
In verse 17, he came to an understanding of who he
was and that was what liberated him. Lions don’t eat grass – they know who they
are. Knowledge of who you are determines the value you place on your life. Sir,
you are not a cheap commodity in the hands of God. You were formed in the image
and likeness of God. You are the child of The MOST HIGH GOD, low life isn’t
yours! Poverty isn’t yours. Sickness isn’t meant for you. There is a champ in
you, don’t die a tramp!
