One of the
easiest and the most convenient thing to do as humans is to criticize and judge
those around us. I saw a movie recently about a marriage counselor who could
tell what’s wrong with every marriage but her own home was tearing apart.
Matt 7:1-5
teaches us to do self-examination (spiritual checkup) for ourselves before
doing for others. Verse 4 says, “Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me
pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?”
Someone said that each time you point a judgmental finger at a person, four
fingers are towards you. One thing I have come to understand as well is that
judgmental people are most times those with a whole lot of skeletons in their
wardrobes, so in order to appear real, they shift the spot light of judgment towards another person.
When the
harlot was brought to Jesus in John 8, He said, “He that is without sin among
you, let him first cast a stone at her.” By the time Jesus lifted up His eyes
to see who the accusers were, they were all gone away. Examine yourself. When
last did you sit yourself down to examine your spiritual life and how well are
you doing? Stop looking for the errors of others? You got one or more as well.
Fix that!
Remember you
will give account of your life someday. Don’t get busy examining others without
examining yourself. Do some spiritual checkup. I am sure that some prayers are
been delayed because some spiritual illnesses need to be diagnosed and treated.
As you take
time out to examine yourself, everything limiting you would be revealed to you
in Jesus Name. Amen!
