One of the
greatest destroyers of faith is timing that doesn’t fit our preconceived
notions. We live in a fast paced world where we have come to expect instant
responses to every desire and need. It is a world where everything is fast and
instant. Instant coffee. Instant cash from the ATM. Instant relief from
headache or backache. Instant meal. Instant fame. If we had the power, maybe we
would have even demanded for instant babies.
But God doesn’t
operate that way. He is never in a hurry and He is never slow. Before Lazarus
died in John 11, the sisters quickly sent an instant message to Jesus informing
him on the state of Lazarus. Jesus loved Lazarus, as such, Mary and Martha
expected instant response. However, Jesus did not show up until after another
two days, during which Lazarus had died and has been buried.
By the time
Jesus got to Lazarus’ place, the sisters were angry and one of them said, “Lord,
if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.” Jesus then performed one of
His most dramatic miracles as He called Lazarus out of the tomb. Jesus was not
late after all. He arrived at the precious moment necessary to fulfill the purposes
of God.
Jesus is
never late. His timetable for action is simply different from ours. And I have
noticed that it is most times slower but always the best. When the wine ran out
in Cana, his mother rushed to him expecting instant miracle, but Jesus
responded by saying, “Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet
come.” God’s timing is perfect. He intervenes
at just the right moment for our ultimate good.
Be patient
when dealing with God. Always have it at the back of your mind that He is
always on time. Never too early and never late. He comes at the time where
there would be greater glory. I pray that the patient to keep holding onto
Jesus till He shows up be released upon you in Jesus Name. Amen!
