MIND YOUR PROFESSION

September 22, 2013

There is a story in the Bible when Jesus and His disciples were come to Capernaum, that they that received tax for the government came to ask Peter, if Jesus was exempted from paying tithe? Jesus knowing that the tax collectors were looking for an excuse to accuse Him, quickly told Peter in Matt 17:27 that, “go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.”

Excuse me sir, why didn’t Jesus ask Peter to go into the bush and that the first rat that comes his way would have money in his mouth? Jesus did not do that because He knew that Peter was no hunter, but a fisherman. Jesus would have asked Peter to go fetch a rat had Peter was a hunter. My brothers and sisters, your place of provision is in your profession. Prov 22:29 says, “Seest thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.” A friend of mine said if an armed robber is diligent, he shall rob a palace.

My friend, become diligent in your business. Mind your profession. Forget the size of your business right now, every big businesses started small. Play your part by becoming an expert at what you do.

I have come to understand that God will bless you out of the work of your hands. It was very easy and convenient for God to give Jacob the idea of how to get speckled animals because Jacob was into cattle business. Ma, no man can give you more than what your profession will fetch you. There is a Yoruba adage that says, “A man’s palm doesn’t deceive the man.” In order words, a man would be satisfied by the work of his hands. Your hands are blessed in Jesus Name. Amen!
