Sometimes because of the pressure of “I just want this now”, we end up
as “askers” alone and not “thankers”. Do you know that giving thanks stands God
up? Please don’t get me wrong, I am not saying prayer is a futile effort, but I
am sure you have heard someone saying try praise if prayer seems not to be
working.
Jesus demonstrated this when he was to feed the five thousand with
five loaves of bread. Meister Eckhart said “If the only prayer you said in your
life was “thank you,” that would suffice.”
A great servant of God told us that as he was preparing to minister
during a crusade, his son gave up the ghost. He said he had the option of
staying back and praying the boy comes back to life or to start mourning the
child. He said he chose none of the options but locked the boy inside the room
and went for his ministration. On climbing the altar, he said Holy Ghost told
him to just worship the God that gives life. By the time he got back to his
room, he said the boy was already banging the door. Hallelujah!
It is a very simple logic, if you have ever seen a place where
musicians start singing the praise of a man, you would notice that the man
would almost clear his account just to say thank you for praising me. Same way
when we thank God for things done, He is been moved into action to do much
more. When we thank Him for things not yet done, He expedites the process of
release of such desires.
A song says, “When praises go up, God’s blessings come down”. We are
so focused on what He has not done that we lose on both ends. The truth is that
you sleep and wake up alone is a great one to thank Him for, not to talk of the
air you breathe, the grace to function well and all.
I urge you this moment to just take some minutes and thank God for all
that He has done and for that which He is yet to do because you are sure He
will do it at the right time. If at all you cannot find anything to thank Him
for, thank Him for not allowing you to add to the inventory of the souls in the
grave. Give Him praise you can talk, walk, read, and write and all. There is
something to thank Him for.
