There is a popular story of a boy who found an
eagle’s egg and put it in the nest of a chicken. The eagle hatched and thought
that he was a chicken. He grew up doing what the chickens do – scattering the
dirt for food and flying short distances with a noisy fluttering of wings. One
day he went out and saw a beautiful bird soaring on the currents of the air and
dancing in the sky high above the mountains. “Oh, I wish I could fly like
that!” said the eagle. The chicken replied, “Don’t give it another thought.
That’s the mighty eagle, the king of all birds – you could never be like him,
you are an ordinary chicken!”
The eagle gave it no more thought from that moment
and went on cackling and complaining about life. The eagle died thinking he was
a chicken. When God wanted to use Moses in delivering the children of Israel
from Pharaoh, He had to configure him to believe in himself before he could
send him out. Moses never believed he was the right candidate for that job. He
thought he had just a rod in his hand but when he saw the rod turn to snake,
Moses became a self-believer (Exo 4). Through that rod, so many other miracles
were done.
The only person who is permitted to pull you down is
YOU because God created you for dominion. There is royalty in you. You are a
lender unto nations. You are success personified. Norman Vincent Peale said,
“Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but
reasonable confidence in your own powers, you cannot be successful or happy.” If
you don’t believe in yourself, no one would believe you! There is a deposit of
greatness in you that the world hasn’t witnessed before (1 Cor 2:9).
George Elliot said, “It is never too late to be what
you might have been.”
